The Experience

Who will not fall in love with the beauty and sceneries of Norway? Its snow capped mountains reflected by its icy crystal clear rivers are wonderful to look at. The beauty of scenic Norway is only matched by its colourful and unforgettable history.

Norway as part the Scandinavian countries was also a part of the beginnings of the historic Vikings. The Vikings were famous for their unique boats which they used to travel from Norway, Denmark and Sweden. From these countries, they settled in Great Britain, France, Russia and Ireland. There are now many accounts of treasures found from these countries that belonged to the Viking era. Coins, golden and bronze cups and many others are proof that these settlers had their own currencies and advanced way of living.

There are still more that can be discovered and rediscover about Norway. Norway also has a great collection of literature. After what was known as the “four hundred years of darkness”, Norway’s rebirth gave rise to great writers like Alexander Kielland and Jonas Lie. But there is more to Norway than its history and literature. Tourists from all over the world are flocking Norway to enjoy its sights, sounds, fine cuisine and of course adventure.

If you like mountains, adventure and fun, then going to Trolltunga is the best destination for you. Located Skjeggedal, Odda, Norway, Trolltunga is breathtakingly beautiful. Upon reaching it, it was unbelievable that such view exists. But of course beauty has its price. Adventurous expedition awaited those who were eager to reach the “troll’s tongue”.

Visitors camp or rent cottages at the foot of Trolltunga to have a good rest before the start of the 4-hour ascend. It is also like hitting a bird with one stone. If the weather was not good for climbing, then shopping in Odda was the next best thing until the weather cleared up. This is one of the good things about Odda there are so many other things to do while patiently waiting for Mother Nature’s cue that everything’s alright to climb Trolltunga. It is approximately 1200 metres above sea level and climbing it was no easy task. There was a ladder, which they refer to as “ladder to heaven” that helped hikers up to the full 950 metres. If you are afraid of heights, then this is your chance to try to overcome it. What you’ll be missing is something pretty spectacular! Then hikers needed to follow a narrow trail the remaining 200 or so metres.

When to Go

What awaited the hikers was a view unbelievably closer to the sky than any other place you can imagine! (except for Mt. Everest of course) But what’s so wonderful about Trolltunga was the clear blue sky that greeted everyone who succeeded in climbing this rare beauty. The crystal clear river below it was a proof that climbers were as high on Earth as they could ever be. It was indeed a day for photos and videos that captured this once in a lifetime adventure. Nature has made us a platform, a stage to show man its splendour!

June and July are the best months to visit Norway and the rest of its wonderful cities including Trolltunga. It is during these months that the weather is mild and snows have already begun melting. It is the best time marvel at nature’s gifts to Norway. Bring your cameras, camcorders, light jacket and your enthusiasm. It’s certainly going to be fun!
