Ziplining Through the St. Lucia Rainforest

Published by Spencer Spellman, Writer

Country: Saint Lucia

The Experience

What was once an activity reserved for summer camps and water parks, ziplining is quickly becoming one of the most popular tropical attractions in the world. While you can now find zipline tours in many countries, some of these are just through sparse forests or open fields. There's a novelty that comes from your first ziplining experience, but there's nothing like ziplining through a thick rainforest in the Caribbean. As one of the best Caribbean destinations in the world, St. Lucia offers the ideal spot for ziplining, whether it is as a first-timer or an experienced zipliner.

St. Lucia is popular among travellers to the Caribbean for many reasons. It's most popular among honeymooners, but is also frequented by families, older adults, and everything in between. White sandy beaches, clear ocean waters, and lush rolling mountains make it an ideal spot for a Caribbean trip. Although its beaches are St. Lucia's most popular attraction, the rainforests are a close second. You only have to go slightly inland to find St. Lucia's dense rainforests, which encompass most of the island. It is here, where you'll find amazing St. Lucia zipline tours.

Zipline tour companies can be found throughout St. Lucia that offer half-day and full-day zipline tours. Many of these can be arranged either through your hotel or a tour office in the town you're staying in. Since the inland roads of St. Lucia aren't good, it's recommended to arrange for transportation through the tour company, rather than driving yourself. Transportation is often included in the price.

Most zipline tours in St. Lucia will begin with an introduction to your guides, which will include receiving your equipment rental and a couple of opportunities to practice before going deep into the rainforest. This is usually followed by a gondola ride up to the top of the rainforest canopy. Tour guides are experts on the St. Lucia rainforests, and they take this time to introduce tourists to the wilderness and wildlife around them.

Once you reach the top of the canopy, the fun begins as you zipline from platform to platform through the rainforest. Each time you zipline, it will range anywhere from fifty yards to several hundred yards. Depending on the tour, tourists will zipline between eight and fifteen times during the course of the tour. If you get lucky, you might even be treated to a tasty Caribbean drink to end your tour.
