I'm enjoying being back in Canada and I'm hoping to go to South Africa next year.

Cardiff Castle: A Museful Mingled Masterpiece
Created on December 01, 2009 by Erin Pienaar, WriterCardiff Castle is part medieval castle, part Gothic mansion, and is a mixture of old and new, enchanting the eye and exciting the imagination. One of the most fascinating aspects of the Castle is the Norman Keep, a medieval dungeon or fortress structure dating back to the 12th century. The remains of a fireplace and a set of stairs are visible within the stone Keep, and if you ascend the stairs you will reach the top of the Keep, which offers a lovely view of the grounds. Norman Keep is encircled by a water-filled trench, and this miniature moat is often occupied by ducks. Standing atop the Keep and taking in the beautiful and peaceful surroundings, it is difficult to imagine that this was once ...
Dally in the Dreamland of Barcelona’s Park Guell
Created on November 27, 2009 by Erin Pienaar, WriterThe beautiful Park Guell of Barcelona, Spain, is an extraordinary sight. Fantastic pavilions and sculptures are positioned amid the herb paths and foliage, seemingly plucked from a dream. Now one of the most popular parks in Barcelona, it is difficult to believe that Park Guell came from inauspicious origins. Barcelona industrialist Eusebi Guell, obtained the park with the intention of building a housing development for the wealthy, and he recruited architect Antoni Gaudí to assist him. The plan was a failure as only two houses were built and Guell was unable to sell either of them. Gaudi finally purchased one of the homes for himself and his family. The city claimed the property in 1918, and it was opened as a public park in 1922. ...
Revel like Royalty in Schonbrunn Palace, Vienna
Created on November 27, 2009 by Erin Pienaar, WriterSchonbrunn Palace in Vienna is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Austria, and rightfully so, as it is said to be surpassed in beauty and grandeur only by Versailles in France. If the beautifully decorated palace rooms are not enough to encourage a visit, travellers will be easily lured in by the remarkable gardens and the striking hedge maze. The site of Schonbrunn Palace originally served as a hunting ground for the Austrian Imperial family. A mansion was erected by the family in 1548, and this mansion was eventually transformed into a palace by Eleonore Gonzaga, the widow of Ferdinand II, and a prominent member of the House of Hapsburg. Schonbrunn Palace has been remodelled several times according to the whims of its ...
Ponder the Paranormal at the Edinburgh Vaults
Created on November 06, 2009 by Erin Pienaar, WriterThe city of Edinburgh features beautiful parks and gardens, remarkable buildings, and the marvellous Edinburgh Castle. It may seem surprising, but this charming city has a grisly past that sets a spine-chilling stage for the notorious Edinburgh ghost tours. Edinburgh has been called one of the most haunted cities in Europe, and there are several companies ready to prove its reputation. Mercat tours, Auld Reekie tours, and Black Hart Entertainment are some of the most popular Edinburgh ghost tour companies; and each of these companies offer a variety of tours to suit your individual ghost-hunting needs. Some Edinburgh ghost tours take place during the day and are aimed at younger children. Other ghost tours take place late at night in order to make use of ...
Take a Whirl on the Wiener Riesenrad
Created on September 25, 2009 by Erin Pienaar, WriterOne of the most noteworthy features along the Vienna skyline is a grandiose Ferris wheel: the Wiener Riesenrad. As the tallest Ferris wheel in Vienna (212.4 ft.), the Wiener Riesenrad is a timeless testament to quality fun, and the impressive size and antiquity of the Wiener Riesenrad will capture the imagination of any traveller. Erected in 1897 for the golden jubilee of Emperor Franz Josef I, the Riesenrad is one of the only surviving Ferris wheels of its time. The Riesenrad has shown impressive resilience over the years, withstanding a threat of demolition in 1916, a damaging fire in 1944, and the Second World War. The passenger cabins of the Wiener Riesenrad resemble old fashioned railway cars, and feature wooden floors, large windows and a ...
Go Gothic Visiting the Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris
Created on July 05, 2009 by Erin Pienaar, WriterEurope’s churches and cathedrals are celebrated for various reasons: breathtaking architecture, deep-seated history, and stunning stained glass windows. Religious convictions aside, Europe’s cathedrals house beautiful works of art and offer a chance for quiet reflection. Throughout my travels I’ve toured many impressive churches, but Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is a spire above the rest. The abundance of sights available in Paris can be daunting, especially if you are tight on time. If unsure where to begin, a shuttle boat called the Batobus which travels along the Seine River is a good start as it stops at eight of Paris’ main attractions: the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and the Notre Dame Cathedral, to name a few. As we approached Notre Dame Cathedral, the misty grey ...
