Mountain Bike The Red Rock Terrain of Moab, Utah
Published by Spencer Spellman, Writer

The Experience
Quickly becoming one of the best mountain biking areas in the world, Moab offers more the just incredible off roading, it puts visitors right in the middle of beautiful red rock mesas and buttes. Comprised of versatile terrain that spans the likes of Arches and Canyonland National Parks, it's not hard to see why Moab has become so popular for hiking, rock climbing, four-wheeling, and other adventure activities.
Mountain biking in Moab certainly isn't for the faint of heart. Many riders have succumbed to the sweltering heat and tough climbs that are difficult for any type of rider. There are trails that accommodate novice mountain bikers, and some with more rocky terrain that is more suited to experienced riders who want to push things to the limit. Nonetheless, beginners can still find many bike trails that can cater to their skill level, without getting over their head. These riders should make sure they have a good map and talk with a guide or travel operator who knows the trails well.
Although many people bring their own fully-loaded mountain bikes, there are several nearby outfitters that rent out and sell bikes for both newbies and professionals. Because of the terrain, full-suspension bikes are the visitors’ best bet for riding over the rocks and bumps as smoothly as possible. Beginners are encouraged to take the Bar-M Trail, which is certainly one of the easiest trails, better suited for families as it is predominantly a rocky dirt road.
The granddaddy of all the trails is the world-renowned Slickrock Trail. Here, guests can experience some of the most beautiful scenery of Moab, but at a cost. The Slickrock Trail is both physically and technically challenging, putting even the best riders to the test. This trail is a 10-mile loop, although riders may try the practice loop first to get a feel of what riding on the Slickrock is like. Though just 10 miles long, and shared with motorcyclists, the trail can take several hours to complete because of the steep ascents.
For both mountain bike beginners and professionals, biking Moab offers one of the most exciting outdoor activities in the U.S., featuring unique terrain unlike anywhere else, and incredible views of the famous Utah canyon country.
