Visit the Heart and Soul of America at the Country Music Hall of Fame

Published by Spencer Spellman, Writer

Country: United States

The Experience

While music in the United States has taken on many forms, much of its roots can be traced back to Nashville, Tennessee. The mid 1900s birthed one of the most popular forms of music, which is still popular today: country. While the country music style has changed, its popularity hasn't; and you can hear much of its influence in many other genres of music. As the birthplace of country music, visitors can enjoy a day or weekend at Mecca: the Nashville Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

You could easily spend an entire day at least, if not a whole weekend, visiting the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The full country music experience begins with the studio row tour, which takes visitors to Nashville's world-famous studio row that still houses some of the best known music studios. While guests have opportunity to take photos during the tour, the highlight is the historic RCA Studio B.

RCA Studio B is world-famous due to the amount of hit songs that have been recorded in this small studio. No bigger than a typical ranch house, Studio B has recorded over 35,000 songs, of which 1,000 were top-ten American hits. Elvis Presley made RCA Studio B famous by recording over 150 songs. Other famous artists to have recorded there include Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, and Roy Orbison. Other modern-day bands to have played and recorded there include U2 and Fleetwood Mac. A tour of the studio lets visitors see the same equipment that some of the world's best musicians have used.

Th RCA Studio B tour provides a good historical backdrop as travellers make their way to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. One of the largest museums in the southeast, the Museum is a landmark in and of itself, and one of the most photographed buildings in Nashville. The Country Music Hall of Fame introduces guests to country music, chronicling it from its birth to what it is today. Guests can listen to albums, watch interviews, and read about country music's legends. Enjoy perusing through their large artifacts collection which include hundreds of instruments, over 800 hundred stage costumes and many other prized objects of music legends including cars and other memorabilia.

Even if you're not a country music fan, the Museum is intriguing because of the insight and history it provides about one of the most recognized genres of music. Finally, guests can end their visit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum by popping into the gift shop to pick up some reminders from one of the most famous music museums in the world.

When to Go to Country Music Hall Of Fame

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum maintains normal business hours throughout the year. The summer tourist season during June and July is the busiest, so if you want to avoid the large crowds, consider a winter visit.

Odds n' Ends

While guests can solely visit the historic RCA Studio B Row Tour or the Hall of Fame and Museum, I recommend doing the combination package. Depending the package you choose tickets range in price from $20 - $30. The museum is expansive, so you may want to wear a comfortable pair of shoes for walking around.
